Current Programs

Our current programs are built around what our community tells us it needs. We listen first, then we act. Every program SIC runs is designed to produce real, measurable change for the youth, parents, and families we serve in Long Beach.

Parent Empowerment & Leadership Network Sparks LINC Housing Complex | Funded by the Children's Defense Fund

Through this network, we are building a community-led network of parents and caregivers who are trained, supported, and mobilized to advocate for their children's education and the issues impacting their housing community. Our goal is to actively engage at least 25 parents and caregivers in the program.

The program includes leadership workshops, community advocacy events, and field trips. Participants gain confidence navigating the school system, greater representation in school and housing community meetings, and improved collaboration between families and educators. Childcare and stipends are available to ensure every parent can fully participate.

This initiative transforms knowledge into action — nurturing a generation of parent leaders whose advocacy will outlast the grant.

Strong Beach Collective: Community Healing & Violence Prevention Funded by the City of Long Beach

The Strong Beach Collective is a six-week, community-based healing activation designed to advance violence prevention, social connection, and collective well-being among residents in Central-East Long Beach.

Programming is designed for youth, young adults, parents, and community members, and includes facilitated group sessions and two culminating community events that reinforce learning, promote collective healing, and strengthen protective factors for safer neighborhoods.

LINC Housing Afterschool & Enrichment Program In partnership with LINC Housing,

In partnership with LINC Housing, SIC provides afterschool programming and enrichment activities for youth in the LINC Housing community — creating a safe, supportive space for young people to learn, connect, and grow.

Youth Leadership & City Strategic Plan Initiative In partnership with Khmer Girls in Action

In partnership with the City of Long Beach, SIC supports youth leaders in the development and implementation of the Youth and Emerging Adults Strategic Plan and Youth Fund. Our team and youth members participate in weekly and monthly meetings, currently focused on the subject of housing — working to create a proposal for city-wide youth vote for summer activation.
